Affiliations: Mr. Tanner retired from Delco Moraine in Saginaw. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose.

TANNER, Ellsworth George II – of Birch Run, died Friday, January 6, 2012 at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. He was 73 years of age.

 

George was born October 24, 1938 in Birch Run to the late Ellsworth and Josephine (Ballard) Tanner. He was a resident of Birch Run his entire life. George served in the US Marine Corp from 1957 to 1959. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Totten on June 25, 1960. Mr. Tanner retired from Delco Moraine in Saginaw. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose. George was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed playing cards and being with friends. He especially loved his family.

 

Surviving are: wife, Jackie; 3 children, David (Jenny) Tanner of MO, Michael (Stephanie) Tanner of NC, Renee (Mark) Young of Birch Run; 4 grandchildren, Erica Tanner, Logan Tanner, Cassie Young and Cammie Young; best friend, Budd; 2 sisters and a brother, Vivian (Tom) Cook of Birch Run, Joell (Tim) Daenzer of Frankenmuth, Todd (Mary Jo) Tanner of Birch Run; sister in law, Mary Tanner of Birch Run; several nieces and nephews. A brother, John Tanner, also preceded him in death in 2000.

 

Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Monday, January 9, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run, Rev. John Sarge officiating. Burial will be at Cook Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Sunday from 12-8 PM where a memorial service by the Birch Run American Legion Post #125 and the VFW Post #7542 will be held at 6:30PM and a celebration of his life will be held at 7 PM. He will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10 AM until time of Mass at 11 AM.  Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Birch Run Athletic Association.
