Richard C. VanHoorelbeke "Rick Van" age 74 of Gladwin, passed away Saturday January 7, 2012. He was born November 20, 1937 to Gerard & Lottie (Cieczovich) VanHoorelbeke in Detroit, Michigan. Rick married Joan Shaw January 19, 1957 in Detroit. He proudly worked as an Iron Worker for Local 25 out of Detroit retiring in 1992 after 50 years. Rick began his career working on the Mackinaw Bridge, then worked throughout Detroit on popular buildings such as Cobo Hall and the Renaissance Center. In 2009 Rick was inducted into the Iron Workers Walk of Fame in Mackinaw City. In 1979 Rick and his family moved to Gladwin. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Secord Lake Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus Council 12660. Rick if survived by his wife of 55 years Joan VanHoorelbeke of Gladwin; Daughter and Son-in-law: Deborah & David Kramp of Gaylord; Daughter & Son-in-law: Cyndee & Jeff Balzer of Gladwin; Son & Daughter-in-law: Rick and Dawn VanHoorelbeke of Harrison; Son & Daughter-in-law: Tim and Monica VanHoorelbeke of Saginaw; 7 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Brothers. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister: Patricia. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 10, 2012, from 2-9 PM at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, 440 E. Cedar Ave., Gladwin, Michigan. A Remembrance Service will be held Wednesday January 11, 2012, 10:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, Edenville, with Father William Rutkowski officiating. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 AM until the time of service.
