Roy L. Breternitz, 62, of Beaverton, died at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland, with his loving wife and best friend at his side.

            Roy was born on Aug. 16, 1949 in Hemlock, to the late Frederick and  Lillian (Fiting) Breternitz. Roy attended the Hemlock Public Schools graduating in 1967. Then on April 8, 1972 he married his sweetheart, Dianne Winslow, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hemlock.

            Roy served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  He received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

            Roy loved boating, snowmobiling, motorcycles and anything that went fast.

            Roy is survived by his wife, Dianne; siblings, Gayla (Wes) Butcher of Saginaw, Ron (Karen) Breternitz of Hemlock, Jan (Gene) MacDonald of Hemlock, Roger Breternitz of Hemlock, Randy (Karen) Breternitz of Midland, Lee Breternitz of Hemlock; Dianne's siblings, Connie (William) Carson of Midlothian TX, Kathy (Don) Barber of Round Rock, TX, Ricky (Dawn) Winslow of Hamilton, MI; Dianne's parents, Melvin (Mildred) Winslow of Hemlock;

Dear Friends, Ivars (Rita) Krauklis, Len (Inderjit) McManus, Jim (Cheryl) St. Louis, Bruce (Lori) Newine, Dave (Carol) Miller, Steve (Donna) Roberts, Tom (Connie) Valliere and Jeremy (Tracey) Finney.

            Roy was predeceased by his brother Robert Breternitz.

            A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Gerald Ferguson officiating.  The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 4 til 7 pm and on Friday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military Honors will be given under the auspices of the US Army and the Midland County Veterans.

            In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Disabled American Veterans or Trinity Lutheran Church.
