Survived By: He is survived by one son, Gary (Christi) Otway of Lowell; one daughter, Cheryl (Douglas) Leach of Midland; four sisters, Marge (Joe) Burzych of Okemos, Joyce Bittner of Saginaw, Helen Teasdle of Livonia and Marian Cicinelli of Cadillac; by grandchildren, Kellie (Robert) Roblin of Grand Rapids, Kim (Bob) Cowger of Midland, Tracy Leach of Midland, Craig (Lynn) Leach of Livonia and Brian (Kristin) Leach of Lake Ann; great grandchildren, Nate, Nolan and Savannah Leach. In addition to his parents and wife, Don was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Pratt and Eileen Wisneiwski.

Donald James Otway, 90 years and long time Midland area car dealer, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Cascades Senior Living II.  He was born on June 11, 1921 in Porter Township, son of the late John and Mae (Breman) Otway. 

 

Don attended Midland County schools.  On October 1, 1949, he married the former Marsha Jean Stuck at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Midland.  She predeceased him on May 4, 2002.  Don served with the U.S. Navy in WWII, serving in the Asiatic, Pacific and American Theatres. He owned and operated Otway Autos located on the circle in Midland, starting the business in 1954.  Don enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. 

 

He is survived by one son, Gary (Christi) Otway of Lowell; one daughter, Cheryl (Douglas) Leach of Midland; four sisters, Marge (Joe) Burzych of Okemos, Joyce Bittner of Saginaw, Helen Teasdle of Livonia and Marian Cicinelli of Cadillac; by grandchildren, Kellie (Robert) Roblin of Grand Rapids, Kim (Bob) Cowger of Midland, Tracy Leach of Midland, Craig (Lynn) Leach of Livonia and Brian (Kristin) Leach of Lake Ann; great grandchildren, Nate, Nolan and Savannah Leach.  In addition to his parents and wife, Don was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Pratt and Eileen Wisneiwski. 

 

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 from St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church.  Father Richard Jozwiak will be celebrant with burial in New Calvary Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans. Don’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith- Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of mass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Boys Town 14100 Crawford Street Boys Town, Nebraska 68010
