      Passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan.  Age 79 years.

      The daughter of the late Maxwell F. and Marguerite C. (Rigge) Smith was born October 1, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan.  She was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1950. Barbara married James R. McDonald, February 4, 1956. He survives her.  She was employed as Assistant Vice President of Michigan National Bank overseeing the Michigan Ave. and Tittabawassee Rd branches.  She was a member of Warren Ave. Presbyterian Church and the Optimist Club. She was an avid Michigan State University fan, holding football and basketball season tickets and Detroit Tiger Fan.

      Surviving besides her husband, James, are one daughter, two sons and their wives,  Maxwell M. and Jean McDonald, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI; James Robert and Patty McDonald, Phoenix, AZ;  Jodi Lynn McDonald, Lansing, MI; five grandchildren,  Maxwell Jr, Kathleen, Duncan, Spencer and Morgan; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  Three brothers, Maxwell, John (Jack) and Thomas Smith, have predeceased her.

        The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Thomas B. Cundiff will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Chapel from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday.
