Survived By: On September 17, 1995, John was united in marriage to Rochelle "Shelly" Sturtz, and she survives him, along with his mother, Eugina Aileen Gokey; three children, Jacinda (Chris) Clark, twin daughters, Jessica Gokey and Jacy (Stephen) Taylor; four grandchildren, Trinity, Cadence, Christan, and Jordan; stepchildren, Kelly (David) Baehr, Brad McGivern, and Jason Knochel; three step grandchildren, Kelsey, Jacob, and Jeremy; two brothers, Daniel (Deb) Gokey and Richard Gokey; four sisters, Marilyn Sykes, Patricia Landrum, Karen (Jay) Majdecki, and Alicia (Frank) Brandenburg; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Robert Gokey, Jr.

Age 61 years, John died at his home Thursday, September 13, 2012.  He was born to John E. Gokey, Sr. and Eugina Aileen Smith on July 1, 1951 in Bay City, where he resided all his life.  He was a graduate of Bay City Central High School, Class of 1969 and was employed as a truck driver with Quality Carriers for 20 years until his retirement in December of 2010.  John proudly served our country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army.  He was a member Amvets Post #22 and the Teamsters Union, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed golfing, gardening, and dancing.

On September 17, 1995, John was united in marriage to Rochelle “Shelly” Sturtz, and she survives him, along with his mother, Eugina Aileen Gokey; three children, Jacinda (Chris) Clark, twin daughters, Jessica Gokey and Jacy (Stephen) Taylor; four grandchildren, Trinity, Cadence, Christan, and Jordan; stepchildren, Kelly (David) Baehr, Brad McGivern, and Jason Knochel; three step grandchildren, Kelsey, Jacob, and Jeremy; two brothers, Daniel (Deb) Gokey and Richard Gokey; four sisters, Marilyn Sykes, Patricia Landrum, Karen (Jay) Majdecki,  and Alicia (Frank) Brandenburg; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Robert Gokey, Jr. who spent time with him on Tuesday Gokey Golf Day and cutting wood in the fall for the woodburners.  He was predeceased by his father, John E. Gokey, Sr. (03/30/2011)

Funeral services will be Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.  Pastor John Wernecke of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate, with military rites by the Bay County Veterans Council.  Cremation will follow and interment of the cremains will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Amvets Post #22.  Visiting hours are Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the W.
