Geraldine Lea Coon (Gerry), 67, of Coleman, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at home after an illness.
Gerry was born on November 12, 1944, to John and Leona (Tyra) Mark, in Detroit, where she was educated and lived until her marriage to Thomas Coon in 1964.
Gerry is survived by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Thomas Cozat, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gary Stevens, and grandchildren, Tara Cozat, Jonathan Cozat, and Rhiannon Stevens and Tannah Stevens. Her husband, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren were the people most precious to her heart. She also enjoyed the friendship of many friends met throughout her life, whom she will sincerely miss.
She is also survived by her sister, Judith Mark, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents predeceased her.
Gerry was employed for thirteen years as a legal assistant, retiring in 1995. However, her greatest sense of accomplishment came with volunteer work. She was a girl scout leader for 15 years while her children were growing up. After retirement, she became director of the Coleman Food Pantry, where she served from 1996 to 2012. She was also instrumental in planning the new Coleman Area Library and the skating facility, Blades.
Gerry greatly enjoyed many trips and vacations around the world with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and family gatherings, especially those held in the family cabin.
Funeral services will be at 3:00pm, on Sunday, October 21 at Faith United Methodist Fellowship Hall with Reverend Caroline Hart officiating. Burial will follow immediately at the Warren Township Cemetery, Coleman. Friends may call at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc., on Saturday, 3:00-8:00pm and Sunday at the church from 2:00pm until time of services.
