Christine M. Michalak, 62 of Mackinaw City passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 4 at Mackinac Straits Hospital following a heart attack at home. She was born November 1,1950 in Bay City. to Charles and Jerrine(Ackley) Brown. Chris graduated from St.James High School in Bay City in 1968. She married Paul Michalak in Bay City on October 14,1972.and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Chris was very active in the Fort Michilimackinac Pageant in Macikinac City, and loved to bowl, attending nearly all State and National tournaments for many years. She also enjoyed traveling and attending Broadway plays. spending time at the beach in the summer, and playing cards with family and friends. Chris never met a holiday she did not like, appropriately decorating for most, and especially events with her family and beloved cousins. She was also very fond of her two beagles, Allie and Butters. Chris owned the Original Mackinaw Trolley Company for several years, heving been associated with the company since its inception. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family, and will leave a void in Mackinaw City.
She is survived by her husband Paul; her mother Jerrine Brown,, of Mackinaw City; her daughters, Meghan Michalak, Mackinaw City; Caryn (Scott) Painter, Bay City; Kelly( fiance Derek Vernier) Michalak, Ypsilanti;brothers, Charles (Gail) Brown, Essexville; Michael (Carol) Brown, Grand Ledge; Mark Brown, Mackinaw City 3 grandchildren, Lauren Painter,, David Painter, and Elaina Painter, and a special aunt Margaret Paquet, Mackinaw City.She was preceeded in death by her father, Charles Brown, a brother Steven, a sister Barbara, her mother and father-in- law Caroline and Daniel Michalak and a brother in law, Mark Michalak.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 6 from 7 to 9 pm at St.Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Mackinaw City and also Wednesday from 10 until 11 am Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Harry Speckman and Sister Chris Herald officiating. Burial will be later in Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St.Anthony of Padua Church; Michilimackinac Pageant of the Mackinaw Endowment for Music with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, St.Ignace who assisted the family with arrangements.
