Gilbert Orr, age 90, Bad Axe and former resident of Owosso and Fowlerville, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility.
He was born May 30, 1923, in Dearborn, Michigan, to the late Howard and Ruth (Gilbert) Orr. Gilbert was united in marriage to Mary Green on January 30, 1943, in Dearborn.
In 1942 Gilbert graduated from Dearborn High School, and he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II in Italy. After working as a draftsman, he and Mary moved to Fowlerville where they lived for 35 years. Gilbert was a dairy farmer for ten years and then joined Wade Trim as a draftsman and customer service representative. When he retired, they moved to Owosso.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; a son, Robert Orr of Jackson, MI; two daughters, Patricia (Steven) Chazen of California and Nancy Elliott of Ubly and her special friend Dennis Brennan; grandchildren, Kristina (Utah) Hamrick, Kathryn Elliott and her fiancé, Nick Sharp, and Jenna Orr and her fiancé, Cody Karazim, and a niece and two nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Orr, and his brother-in-law, Frank Green, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the MacAlpine “Mac” Chapel, Bad Axe, Michigan, and Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe United First Methodist Church, Toys for Tots or the lucky Fund for Needy Pets at the Michigan State University Veterinary School.
