Ferrell Edley Barnes Jr., "Ed," 64 of Saginaw, passed away November 11, 2012 at his home with his family and dear friends at his side. He was born on February 8, 1948 in Kingsport Tennessee to Margaret (Turpin) Byrd and the late Ferrell E. Barnes Sr.

Ed was employed with General Motors Corporation, retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service. He married the former Barbara Hooton on August 6, 1983 in Reese, MI.

Ed had a huge heart and lived to help the people he loved. He was a coach for Reese Community Girls Softball league for many years, a motor enthusiast and enjoyed his time in his pole barn, "Ed's Garage."

Ed loved spending time at his cabin on Silver Lake taking the neighborhood for dune rides in his orange dune buggy, "Poor Man's Hummer" or floating on the lake in his pontoon boat.  Ed has also been a devoted caregiver to his disabled stepson Andrew for many years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Barbara of 29 years and his Mother, Margaret are his children, Dennis Barnes of Cocoa, Florida, Meghan (Michael)  Langschwager of Bessemer City, North Carolina, Adam Ferrell Barnes (Leah Thibadeau) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; step children: Scott (Jennifer) Williams, Shannon Williams, Justin (Jennifer) Williams, and Andrew Williams; grandchildren: Tyler and Cameron Southward, Jordan Williams, Kaelyn Williams, Liam Williams, Emma and Nora Langschwager; special nephew: Bill (Kim) Hooton of Saginaw; "Partner in crime," Jeff Pinnell of Saginaw; and dear friend, Shane Knight of Bay City.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by his only sibling, his sister Donna Hoover Bryant.

A memorial service, officiated by Ted Langschwager will take place Friday November 16, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home: 9940 Saginaw St. Saginaw, MI 48757. Ed's family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 4-7pm. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider VNA Hospice of Saginaw.
