Joseph Edward Rogers Jr., 77, of Midland, died Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012 at Nottingham Place in Midland. He was born September 18, 1935 in Hudson N.Y., son of the late Joseph E. and Patricia Ann (Stickle) Rogers. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1953 and later graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy N.Y in 1957 with a B.S Degree in Management Engineering. He later received his M.B.A. Degree from Central Michigan University in 1965. Mr. Rogers served his country with the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL from 1958–1960. On March 3, 1962 he married the former Joan Hendrickson in Midland. She survives him. Mr. Rogers started his professional career with U.S. Steel in Clairton, PA in 1957 before being inducted into the Army. After his discharge, he became employed with Dow Chemical Co., a career that lasted until his retirement in 1998. He served Dow in many capacities including, Industrial Engineer, Sr. Industrial Engineer and Systems Development Engineer in Midland and later as Project Independence Energy Consultant in Washington, D.C; Economic Evaluation in Midland and Miami, FL; and Planning Director, Merrell-Dow Pharmaceuticals in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He returned to Midland to become Business Counselor at Dow Chemical US Area, and later Global Business Counselor at Dow Chemical. Mr. Rogers was active in community affairs, serving as Midland Center for the Arts Music Society Board Member; Central Michigan University PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) / DTV (Digital Television Conversion); CMU School of Business Administration Advisory Committee; West Midland Family Center; the City of Midland Board of Review; and the Midland County Jail Advisory and Site Selection Committees. He was awarded the Central Michigan University Master of Business Administration 2000 Alumni Award and the Central Michigan University College of Business Administration Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010.

 

Surviving besides his wife Joan, are his children, Douglas M. Rogers and his wife Dianne IIkka of Farmington Hills; and Lynne R. Pauer and her husband James of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren, Naomi K. and Kyle J. Rogers and Luke D. and Christopher R. Pauer, and his brother-in-law, William A. Hendrickson.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence J. Rogers.

 

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Rev. Wallace H. Mayton, III will officiate with private family inurnment to take place later in the Midland City Cemetery. Mr. Rogers’ family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. in Midland on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
