Ida Annette Nelson, 93 of Midland, died Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at her home. She was born April 14, 1919 in Urbana, IL daughter of the late John and Edna (Berg) McMillan.
Ida was raised in Grand Blanc, and on May 25, 1940 married Elmer Nelson in Flint. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and sports; having played softball with a travelling women’s team. Ida was a founding member of Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church and had been very proud of that fact.
Ida is survived by her children; son Ray Nelson of Maumee, OH, daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Hansen of Ft. Collins, CO; Vicki Eden of Midland; step-daughter, Sonjia Clark of West Branch; son-in-laws, Brent Gagne of Waterville, OH & Ray Kennedy of Midland. Twelve grandchildren: Todd Gagne, Christopher (Nancy) Gagne, Corey (Michelle) Nelson, Kelley Nelson, Daren (Michelle) Short, Terry Kennedy, Troy (Kristi) Kennedy, Tiffany (Darrell) Schaff, Johnny (Kim) Nelson, Craig Hansen, Erik Hansen; four step-grandchildren: Cynthia Steele, Becky Patino, Coyne Steele, and Shannon Steele; thirty-five great grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, her son Stanley Nelson, daughter Sharon Kennedy, daughter Sylvia Gagne; grandson Scott Short; brothers: Chet McMillan, Willis McMillan, John McMillan, Jim McMillan, and sisters: Myra Tkacz, Olga Slenzak, and Louise Malin.
Funeral services for Ida will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 from the Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Rhonda Myers and Rev. Dr. George Baird will officiate with interment to follow in Midland Memorial Gardens.
Ida’s family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home 1200 West Wheeler Street on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 12 noon until time of the service.
