Survived By: On February 9, 1952 he was united in marriage to Kathleen A Badour his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, who survives him, and he also leaves his two sons Gary (Janet) Van Ochten and Robert Jr. (Terri) Van Ochten, five grandchildren Travis J Van Ochten, Elaina Van Ochten, Alissa K Van Ochten, Ryan (April) Van Ochten, and Carrie (Sean) Locey and two great grandchildren Ryan Jr. and Amber Van Ochten; his sister, Darlene (Walter) Edler; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Van Ochten. Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a son, Randy; his brothers, Delmer, Chester and Joseph Jr. Van Ochten and his sister, Leona Clark.

    Robert F. Van Ochten, age 80, died Saturday, December 1, 2012.  He was born on September 26, 1932 to the late Joseph and Maureen (Hugo) Van Ochten Sr. in Essexville, Michigan.  He was a resident all of his life.  Bob worked at Aetna Cement Corporation for 39 years.  He was an electrician and a Hampton Township farmer.  He was a member of St Boniface Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, bus tours, going to casinos, and he was an avid sports fan.  

    On February 9, 1952 he was united in marriage to Kathleen A Badour his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, who survives him, and he also leaves his two sons Gary (Janet) Van Ochten and Robert Jr. (Terri) Van Ochten, five grandchildren Travis J Van Ochten, Elaina Van Ochten, Alissa K Van Ochten, Ryan (April) Van Ochten, and Carrie (Sean) Locey and two great grandchildren Ryan Jr. and Amber Van Ochten; his sister, Darlene (Walter) Edler; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Van Ochten.  Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a son, Randy; his brothers, Delmer, Chester and Joseph  Jr. Van Ochten and his sister, Leona Clark.    

    The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, December 4, 2 012 at 10:00 in Church of St. Boniface.   Robert will lie in state in church on Tuesday after 9:00 AM.  Rev. Dale A. Orlik will preside and the Rite of Committal will be in St. Patrick Mausoleum.  Memorials may be directed to the Macular Degeneration Society.  Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 and from 6 to 8:00 pm with the Vigil for the deceased at 7:00 pm in the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. 

    Special thank you to the nursing staff of Bay Medical Care Facility (2 West) for the care, concern, and thoughtfulness for Bob. 

    I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.  I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when the day is done.
