Pumford, Alfred E. (Bud)
Passed away December 4, 2012 in Saginaw at the age of 93. He was born October 4, 1919 to Alfred E. and Clara Marquardt Pumford. He attended Saginaw Public Schools. He received a certificate in Architectural Drawing after World War II from I.C.S., and attended Officers School in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Alfred served and taught at the Saginaw Naval Reserves after World War II.
He married Ruth N. Spangler in 1941 at Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was a partner with his brother Fred for 35 years in Alfred Pumford and Sons Building Contractors until 1982. His brother predeceased him in 1983. Alfred was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he served as an Usher, and was a member of the Board of Trustees, and the Constitution Revision Committee. During his life time he was life member of the Germania Club, and a member of the Saginaw Club. He served on the Saginaw Planning Commission, he was a past President of the Saginaw Valley Contractor’s Association, and also served on the Board of Directors of the State Associated General Contractors. Alfred had been a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce, and also was a past President of Zion Lutheran Church where he had also served on the Building Committee and as an Usher. He was member of the Building Committee for Valley Lutheran High School. He was past president of the Saginaw Fordney Club where he had served in many capacities for 25 years. He was a Charter member of the River Side Kiwanis Club, and served with the United Way for many years. His other memberships included The Saginaw Navy League, United Commercial Travelers, and The Saginaw Republican 300 Club. He served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer of the Surrey Lake Association.
He was predeceased by his wife Ruth N. Pumford in 2000, and later by his son James M. Pumford in 2008.
Surviving are his Daughter-in-law Luci Pumford; and 2 grandchildren, Jameson Scott Pumford and Angela Faith Pumford (Ken) Miller; 2 great grandchildren, Cooper Miller and Carly Miller; 1 nephew, Robert (Sue) Pumford; Sister-In-law, Mary Lou Weadock, and special nieces and nephews.
A private memorial gathering has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave, Saginaw, Michigan.
