Survived By: On October 9, 1954 he married his wife of fifty eight years the former Maxine Gradowski and she survives his passing along with four sons and three daughters-in-law; Michael Kolat of Lake Jackson, TX, David and Susan Kolat of Saginaw, Daniel and Patti Kolat of Bluffton, SC and John and Connie Kolat of Kawkawlin, four grandchildren; Dylan Kolat, Thomas Kolat and his fiancée Amanda Morgan, Lauren Kolat and Jordan Kolat, two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; Ernest and Irene Gradowski, Robert and Barbara Gradowski, Alice Ann Gradowski and Fay Gradowski and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Delphine and Stanley, his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Stanley and Alphonsa Gradowski, two sisters and three brothers-in-law; Caroline and Danny Michalak, Maxine and Eddie Dombroski and Virgil Gradowski.
Affiliations: He attended St. Stan's grade school, graduated from Bay City Central High School, Bay City Junior College, Michigan State University and Iowa State University where he received a doctorate in physical chemistry. He was formerly employed at American Cyanamid in Stamford, CT, Dow Chemical Company Midland Division and Delta College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob loved traveling to every state, plus the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Aruba and Europe twice. He was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the D.A.V., The Michigan State Alumni Association, The American Chemical Society for 51 years and a former member of the St. George Society. Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed downhill skiing, biking, bowling and fishing in many of his boats.

Bob passed away Monday evening, December 10, 2012 at Bay County Medical Care Facility following an 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.  Age 81 years.  The son of the late Delphine (Baran) and Stanley Kolat, he was born on May 8, 1931 in Bay City, Michigan.  He attended St. Stan’s grade school, graduated from Bay City Central High School, Bay City Junior College, Michigan State University and Iowa State University where he received a doctorate in physical chemistry.  He was formerly employed at American Cyanamid in Stamford, CT, Dow Chemical Company Midland Division and Delta College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  Bob loved traveling to every state, plus the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Aruba and Europe twice.   He was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the D.A.V., The Michigan State Alumni Association, The American Chemical Society for 51 years and a former member of the St. George Society.  Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed downhill skiing, biking, bowling and fishing in many of his boats.

The Kolat Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on 2-East at Bay County  Medical Care Facility especially Robert and Paula for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Bob during his stay with them.

 

A Memorial Mass will take place Tuesday December 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig Catholic Church.  Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Kevin Kerbawy.  The Rite of Committal will take place at 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Cemetery under the Auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council.  At the request of Mr. Kolat Cremation has taken place.  The family will received visitors on Monday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of service at the church.  The Vigil for the deceased will take place Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial cards for Bay County Medical Care Facility or St. Hedwig Catholic Church will be available.
