CHRISTINE MARGUERITE ERLA

           Christine M. Erla, 88, of Cass City, died following a long illness, Monday, December 17, 2012 in Covenant Health Care System, Cooper Campus, Saginaw.  She was born June 10, 1924 in San Antonio, TX to Jessie and Margaret (Bnavidez) Martinez.  She married Richard "Dick" Erla January 19, 1946 in Imlay City.  He died November 7, 2011.

           Christine enlisted in the US Navy after her 18th birthday.  She worked as a Teletype Operator in the Navy.  It was in the dental chair she met Dick as he was working as a Dental Technician also serving in the US Navy.  After their service in the military they returned to the Erla family farm in Imlay City and helped raise Dick's younger brothers and sisters.  Christine was a very active member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and a member of their Woman's Alter Society.  She was a member of Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Hills and Dales Hospital Auxiliary.  Christine was a supportive volunteer for Cass City Historical Society when it began,  Rawson Memorial Library, Elmwood Quilting Club and American Legion Post #7 in Caro.  Christine was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She was most comfortable in the kitchen cooking for a house full of friends and family.  She would deliver communion to the sick and would take them food also.  Christine was God Mother for over 20 people. 

           Christine is survived by her children:  Yvonne (Bruce) LeValley of Cass City, Rick Erla of Hernando, MS; grandchildren:  Trent (Mindy) LeValley, Nathan LeValley and Mindy's son, Brendon.  She is preceded in death by her brother, Jose Rodolfo.

           Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Maria Dina Puddu MC officiating.  Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, CassCity.  Memorials may be made to Cass City Historical Society, American Legion Post #7 or St. Pancratius Catholic Church.  Military honors under the direction of  American Legion Post #7, Caro and United States Navy.  Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
