Vance R. Southwell, 73, of Beaverton, Michigan, passed away at his home on Monday, December 17, 2012. He was born in Gladwin on April 16, 1939, the son of William & Carrie (Bodey) Southwell. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Horn on June 15, 1963 in Beaverton, Michigan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Buick Motor Division in Flint, Michigan as a Millwright in 1997. He had lived in Gladwin County since 1999, previously residing in Genesee County and Mt. Morris. He was a member of UAW Local 599, a Charter member of Mt. Morris Lions Club, present member of Beaverton Lions Club, Boy Scout Leader of the Beaverton Boy Scouts, liaison between the Beaverton Lions and Beaverton Boy Scouts for over 20 years. He was a member of the Dale United Methodist Church, enjoyed gardening and birdwatching, had a great sense of humor, loved hunting and fishing. As far as he was concerned, there were on only 2 seasons: Hunting Season and Fishing Season. He is survived by his wife: Jackie Southwell of Beaverton; 2 sons: Steven ((Penny) Southwell of Rome, New York; Douglas (Kayla) Southwell of Clio, MI; 4 grandchildren: Jonathon (Melinda) Southwell of Huber Heights, Ohio; Michael Southwell of Rome, NY; Sarah Southwell also of Rome, NY; Ryan Southwell of Clio; sisters: Carolyn (Leo) Asch of Beaverton; Betty (David) Anderson of Homosassa, Florida; sister in-law: Joyce Southwell of Prudenville, MI. He is preceded in death by his son: Joel Patrick Southwell (1988); parents; step mother: Virginia "Virgie" Southwell; 3 brothers: Grenvul "Buck" Southwell; sister in-law: Eleanor Southwell; Ronald Southwell; Douglas Southwell; step sister: Shirley Cannon; 2 nieces: Carrie Kareus; Michelle Selph. In honor of his wishes, cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012, 11:00 A.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Dale United Methodist Church, Beaverton, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be used according to the wishes of the family. Arrangements made by Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan.
