Maple Grove Townhsip
Went to be with her Lord on Christmas Day December 25, 2012 at the Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center. Age 92 years. She was born on March 14, 1920 in St. Charles to the late Elmer and Amy (Commusky) Barckholtz. She married the love of her life, Nick Hirschenberger on September 20, 1941. Together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage and were blessed with six children; Ken Hirschenberger of Lake Alfred, FL., Ginny (Tom) Hankins of Cadillac, Janet (Bill) Jones of Wichita, KS, Mike Hirschenberger of Saginaw, Kathy Knapp of Saginaw, her son Richard preceded her in death. There are five grandsons; Chris, Tim, Tom and Jeff Hankins and Everett “Shane” Foland, one granddaughter, Renee Sourbeer; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; one sister, Glad Schweizer of St Charles; one brother, Jack (Lou) Barckholtz of Saginaw, also many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, her son, Richard, her parents, and four brothers, Howard, Floyd, Clifford and Donald.
Margaret volunteered for many years at the Maple Grove Senior Citizens Center helping out wherever she was need. She also enjoyed playing Euchre and Bingo. She and Nick were Snowbirds, traveling back and forth to Florida for 15 years. She was a devoted member of St Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Margaret had a green thumb and her yard was adorned with a colorful variety of flowers. Margaret was also very talented and did a variety of crafts throughout the years, including sewing, cross stitch, needlepoint and plastics. She made beautiful cross stitch paintings that grace many a wall. Margaret will be remembered for her commitment to God and her family and her sweet smile. Never a cross word and a great personality, she was always willing to help someone if she could.
A special Thank You to Pat and harry Kulhanek for being such great neighbors and helping to care for Margaret over the years. Thank You to Sue Quaderer for all you’ve done for both Nick and Margaret. Also, Thanks to Hospice of Michigan for their loving care. A very heartfelt Thank You goes to the Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center who have cared for Margaret like she was family and treated her with care and dignity.
Funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 am at St Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Fr. T.J. Fleming will officiate with burial in St Michael Cemetery. Friends may call at the Whelpley-Martin funeral Home, New Lothrop on Friday from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm and at church on Saturday after 9:00 am.
