Carl J. Huntoon, 82, of Au Gres, Mich., passed away Dec. 29, 2012 at Aleda E. Lutz Veteran Medical Center Saginaw.
Mr. Huntoon was born Nov. 9, 1930 in Lee Township, Midland, Mich., the son of Guy and Bertha Huntoon. He married the late Bernice Keddy, and together the couple had five children, Michael, Gerald, William, Carla and James.
As a young man, Carl enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948 and then Marine Corps in 1954 and served in Korea. He then returned to the Air Force and served in Vietnam and remained on active duty until he retired in 1970.
Left as a widower of five children, Carl continued to raise the couple’s children alone in Coleman, Mich. before finally settling in Au Gres. Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and also sharing camaraderie with local veterans of the former VFW Post #8275.
Carl is survived by his children, Michael (Kimberly) Huntoon, Gerald (Gillian) Huntoon, William (Jayne) Huntoon, Carla Huntoon and James (Brooke) Huntoon; sister, Lilah Bender; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Huntoon will be held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012 at the C.L. Forshee & Sons Funeral Homes, Inc., Au Gres Chapel. Carl will lie in state from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home prior to services with military honors at 11 a.m.
