Martha Helen Wendt passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Carriage House of Bay City.  She was born in Detroit, MI on February 1, 1928 to the late Duane O. and Corinne (Carlson) Butterfield and grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI.  She attended Alma College where she met her future husband, William L. Wendt.  They were married on June 18, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1993.  Bill and Martha owned and operated the family business, Utermalen Furniture in Bay City until Martha’s retirement.  Martha was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed traveling and playing golf with her husband and many trips with a close friend, Joy Dalton.  Summers at the family cabin on Neebish Island and many years at Bill and Martha’s retirement home on the Rifle River were very special to her.

 

Survivors include 4 children:  William O. Wendt of Valley Center, CA, Stuart C. Wendt of Bay City, Susan W. Lesch of Auburn, NY, Lois K. (Thomas) Larson of Bay City, and a niece, Emily J. Butterfield-Holmes of Oklahoma City, OK.  Nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Duane C. (Joyce) Butterfield and a special grandson, Carl Thomas Larson.

 

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family requests memorial gifts be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Buy-A-Brick fund.
