Gilbert, Mrs. Ophelia M.,
Beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare Cooper. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late Hillman and Pearl (Anderson) Pittman, Ophelia was born May 27, 1921 in Flint, Michigan. She married Carlyle Roy Gilbert, her loving husband of 61 years, on December 21, 1940. He predeceased her March19, 2002. Ophelia was a cosmetologist and worked for Severance Tool for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and traveling. Ophelia spent many winters in Florida and loved being with family and friends.
Surviving are one son and one daughter and their spouses, Carlyle Roy Gilbert Jr. and his wife Charise; Velda Ruth and John Vudures; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters, Eugene and Cherral Pittman, Washington; Donald and Rose Pittman, Geraldine Ofstedal, Marge Fruk, Marlene and Jan Janiuk, all of Saginaw; Maxine and Frank Schultz, Florida; a special brother-in-law, Earl Parker; two sisters-in-law, Anna and Ruth Pittman; a special niece, Karen Rupp; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; Ophelia’s dog, Jasmine. Ophelia was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Richard Mundt will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Salvation Army, the American Lung Association or Friends of the Animal Shelter.
