Affiliations: Matilda was a lifelong gardener and loved to travel. She had traveled all over the world after her retirement from the cash room at JC Penney.

Beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away January 4, 2013 at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth; age 95 years.  Matilda Hoebbel was born on May 9, 1917 in Punnichy, Saskatchewan to the late Frank and Anna (Schoenstedt) Hoebbel.  Her family returned to Germany in 1927 and later immigrated to the United States in 1931 and settled in Saginaw, MI.  Matilda graduated from Saginaw High in 1936.  She was married to Willard Dafoe on October 2, 1948.  He predeceased her on February 15, 1982.  Matilda was a lifelong gardener and loved to travel.  She had traveled all over the world after her retirement from the cash room at JC Penney.

 

She leaves one son, Bill (Marianne) Dafoe of Frankenmuth, MI; two grand children, Travis (Dawn) Dafoe of Frankenmuth, MI, and Elizabeth of Chicago, IL; great-grandchild Zoe Dafoe, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, Matilda was predeceased by her parents and three brothers John, Walter, and Albert.

 

Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3829 Lamson St., Saginaw, MI.  Rev. Phillip DeVries will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, Saginaw.  Matilda’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N.
