Meagher, William G. (age 87) of Essexville, MI. passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at home with his family by his side.  William G. Meagher was born April 10, 1925 to the late Joseph and Matilda (Zimmer) Meagher in Bay City.  He graduated from St. James High School and attended Bay City Junior College and completed his education at Notre Dame University.  Bill served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII.  He married the late Patricia (Pat) Hover on May 1, 1954.  For over 30 years, Bill was employed with Dow Chemical Company working in the real estate and property development division.  He married Leandra (Lee) Urban Zax on August 13, 1988.  

His life on and love of the water began with W. J. Meagher & Sons Construction Co.   He and his wife Pat owned and operated The Port of Call Marina on the Saginaw River and Knight Harbor Marina on the Saginaw Bay in Essexville.   He was a member of St. Boniface Church, the Elks Club, the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, and the Saginaw Club.

Bill was proud of his Irish heritage and was an active participant in the Bay City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  He served as the Parade Marshall twice and was the design engineer behind multiple award winning “Meagher Family Floats”.   He was an avid whitetail deer hunter and enjoyed fly fishing at his cabin on the AuSable River.  

He will be dearly missed and remembered by his wife Leandra; children, Lynn (Kirby) Pettyjohn, Judy Petersen, and William Joseph (Jody) Meagher; five grandchildren, Ann Pettyjohn, Jack Pettyjohn, Meghan Petersen (Anthony) Jurek, Kate Petersen (Mike) Toth, and Charlie Petersen; brother, Robert (Donna); sister-in-law Beverly; an extended step-family and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; brothers, Joseph and Thomas; sister, Ann; and son-in-law, Lowell Petersen. A Catholic Mass at St. Boniface Church will be held for family and friends at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013, with Rev. Dale A. Orlik presiding.
