J. Robert Hutfilz
Passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at his home. Age 89 years.
The son of the late John C. and Ada E. (Murphy) Hutfilz was born November 21, 1923 in Merrill, Michigan. He married Geraldine V. Corbat, October 19, 1946. She passed away April 8, 1999. He was employed by Dow Chemical Company as a Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1982 with thirty years of service. Mr. Hutfilz served as Manager and on the council of the Village of Merrill and with the Jonesfield-Lakefield Fire and Rescue units from 1954 thru 1975. He served as Chief from 1972 -1975. He was a fast-pitch softball pitcher.
Surviving are five children and their spouses, Angela and Donald Kennedy, Merrill, MI; John and Kathleen Hutfilz, St. Louis, MI; Sally and Jimmy Krueger, Merrill, MI; Beverly and Rick Rosinski, Bay City, MI; Kevin Hutfilz, Merrill. MI; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Marie Kennedy; Jason and Jamie Kennedy; Brian Kennedy; Megan Hutfilz; Tammy and Brian Jastrzemski; Ryan Krueger; Brooke Newvine; Sara Langeneck; Leslie and Derek Fobear; Riley Rosinski; Veronica Rosinski; Stacy and Brian Percy; Emily Hutfilz; eleven great grandchildren,
Grace Kennedy; Alexis and Lacey Kennedy; Dylan and Jadeyn Jastrzemski; Stephen Williston; Anna Krueger; Isabella Langeneck; Haleigh Tait; Drew Fobear; Kyler Percy; his sisters and brothers and their spouses, Bernard and Julayne Hutfilz, Merrill, MI; Mary and Jay Bos, Saginaw, MI; June Howell, Chesaning, MI; his sisters-in-law , Delores and Carl Kocsis, Midland, MI; Lucille Corbat, Hemlock, MI; Lorna Corbat,
Freeland; many nieces and nephews; his special friends, Monica Bluemer, Ernest (Sam) Naessens; William (Bill) O’Toole all of Merrill. Two sons, Mark James Hutfilz and Jeffrey Joseph Hutfilz, two brothers, a sister-in-law, Kenneth and Lois Hutfilz; Raymond Hutfilz; Howard House and Daniel Howell have predeceased him.
The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. Craig Carolan will officiate with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel in Merrill from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and then on Saturday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
