Marlene M. Keyes, 74, of Reese, died Tuesday afternoon unexpectedly at her home.  She was born on March 25, 1938 in Munger, MI, daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle (Krause) Nickel.  Marlene attended and graduated from Fairgrove High School in 1956.  She began her long time career at Reese IGA beginning in 1956, retiring 40 years later in 1996.  Marlene was united in marriage on May 11, 1957 to Fred Keyes, at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese.  Her strong faith continued, being a member of Christ Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Church Choir for many years. Marlene was an avid Michigan Football and Basketball fan, attending games with her family.  She also very much enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Grayling on Lake Margrethe, where she was the captain of her own Pontoon Boat.  Along with her husband they wintered in Florida, on Anna Maria Island, Runaway Bay and Bradenton Beach.  Marlene loved to bake and was known for her Christmas cookies and was a great companion to her neighbors.  Surviving in addition to her husband Fred of 55 years are her two children and their spouses, Debbie and Bernie Bittner of Reese, Mark and Susan Keyes of Frankenmuth; grandchildren, Jason (Andrea) Bittner, Kalie Keyes, Kendra Keyes; great granddaughter, Olivia Bittner; brothers and sister, Arnold (Jean) Nickel of Pinconning, Jerry (Susan) Nickel of St. John’s, Norman (Elizabeth) Nickel of Fairgrove, Joyce (Charles) Keyes of Saginaw; mother-in-law, Sylvia Keyes of Gilford; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Henry) Haske of Columbus, OH.; aunt, Vera Talaski of Filion as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, a grandson, Steven Bittner and father-in-law, Myron Keyes preceded her in death.  Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese.  Rev. Tom Senge will officiate with burial in Denmark Township Cemetery.  Marlene’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Christ Lutheran Church.
