Charles Markel, 82, a life long farmer of Munger, died Tuesday morning, February 5, 2013 at his home with his family at his side.  He was born on September 13, 1930 in Munger, son of the late Ralph and Delia (DuRussel) Markel.  He married the former Sally J. Syring on September 23, 1950, in Munger.  Charles was a member of St. Norbert Catholic Church where he loved helping on various functions including barbecuing chicken for the church and on special occasions.  He had many hobbies, which included, hunting, fishing, going to Casino’s, gardening and his fruit orchard.  He especially enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Grayling and spending time with all of his family.  Charles would meet at John’s Bar with the coffee club and truly enjoyed his children coming home for holidays and birthdays and after their meal, the family would sit around and talk.  Surviving in addition to his wife, Sally of 62 years are his children and their spouses, Michael Sr. and Debbie Markel, Patricia and Roy Rasmus; son-in-law, John Stoick; grandchildren, Joshua (Jenny) Stoick, Mathew (Ashley) Stoick, Michael Markel Jr., Heather (Tyler) Squanda; great grandchildren, Owen Stoick, Mason Stoick, Addison Stoick and one great grandchild soon to be born; and sisters and brother, Ruth Claes, Emma (Frank) Findley, Ralph (Patricia) Markel.  In addition to his parents, one daughter Michele Stoick, sisters and brother, Alice Weiss, Julia Reder, Bernice Perry and John Markel; sister-in-law, Joyce Hayward and brother-in-law, Wayne Syring preceded him in death.   Mr. Markel’s family would like to thank Dr. Potts and Kari from Hospice Advantage for the care given to him during his recent illness and also to Dr. Tubman and Penny for all the years of Medical Service and compassion.  The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 from St. Norbert Catholic Church.  Father Joseph Schabel will officiate with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Bay City.  Charles’ family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the liturgy.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Hospice Advantage.
