Obituary for Bernice Cloutier Walz of Standish
Bernice Cloutier Walz (95) passed away February 5, 2013 with family at her side at St. Mary's Skilled Nursing Facility in Standish, Michigan.
Bernice Walz, our dearly beloved grandmother and aunt, was born in Manistique, Ml on September 29, 1917 to John B. Larion and Lillian E. Wharfield Larion. She was the 8th child in a family of 9. Her siblings were Florence, Alfred, twin brothers Floyd and Gerald, Agnes, John, Herbert and Dorothy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, husbands Theodore Cloutier of Pinconning and William Walz of Au Gres, daughter Ruth Ann Cloutier/Jarvis/Compeau, and many brothers and sisters-in-law on both sides of her family.
She is survived by a granddaughter Mary Beth Hoyt of Standish, a great-granddaughter Misty Jarvis and (Rick) Brown of Standish, a grandson Marlin D. Jarvis of Texas, three great-great grandchildren Austin J. Jarvis, Cheyene R. Brown, and Lougan W. Brown also of Standish, Ml. Too numerous to mention are the many nieces and nephews on the Cloutier side of the family, which includes the LaLondes, Watermans, Gordineers, Blacks, Camerons, and the Davisons
Bernice lived a good, long and happy life. She and her younger sister Dorothy attended a July 4th Parade in Manistique. They caught the eyes of two young good-looking fellows who came into town from one of the CC Camps. They asked them out on a date and soon fell in love. Both sisters ended up marrying the two CC Camp laborers, a union for Bernice & Theodore that lasted 47-1/2 years. After a 2-year stint in the Navy, he returned to her and their daughter, together they built and ran a mink ranch for many years in Pinconning until his death on December 30, 1984. She also worked at several jobs – the longest term was with the Standish Community Hospital where she retired after 18 years of service in Food Prep. In 1987, she married William (Bill) Walz of Au Gres. They shared a blissful 17 years of marriage enjoying their circle of friends, attending dances and many other opportunities for fun and relaxation. Bill passed away on August 1 9, 2004.
A showing for Bernice will take place at the R. O. Savage Funeral Chapel in Standish, Ml on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Friday, February 8, Funeral Services will be held at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, 423 W Cedar St in Standish at 11:00 AM. She will lie in state from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, preceding the church service.
Her interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Pinconning, Ml immediately following the service.
Her wishes for any memorials are St. Mary's Hospital of Standish or the Heartland Hospice Care of West Branch.
