Perry, Lois M.
Our beloved grandmother, Lois Marie Yoder Perry passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 7, 2013.
The fourth of seven children born to Chris and Edith Yoder, Lois came into this world early on November 14, 1913. and stayed until the last dance. She achieved many great things in her life. At a time when girls were discouraged from finishing school, Lois graduated high school during the Great Depression and even went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Arts Degree at Central Michigan University. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse, taught in several schools including the Hemlock and Saginaw School Districts. Lois was honored to share her knowledge in the Teacher Preparation Program at Michigan State University. She was fondly remembered by several of her students as a teacher who showed no favoritism and joined in the fun with her students at recess. Some of these students continued to visit her all through her life. During her life, Lois also owned a truck-stop near Montague, Michigan and a ceramic shop in Merrill, Michigan. She enjoyed painting, gardening and quilting in her spare time. She married Joseph Peter Perry on December 25, 1943. They had one son, David Floyd Perry and his wife Cathy Weaver Perry. They predeceased her along with her twin stillborn daughters and all of her brothers and sisters. Lois is survived by her grandson, Craig Perry, and his wife, Pamela Perry, and her sons, Kenneth and Kevan Stack, and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Private committal services will take place later. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the family’s wishes. www.casefuneralhome.com
