Survived By: Betty is survived by four children and their spouses, Loren "Rip" & Sherri Hines of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Craig Hines and his fiancÚ, Camille Highter, of Killingworth, Connecticut, Kurt Hines and his wife, Laura Ringlein of Alpena, Lisa & Bill Lear of Griswold, Connecticut; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Lind and her husband, Otto, of southwest Michigan, and Lu Burns of Goodells, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Sue Kelso in 1977 and Brent Hines in 1979; two grandchildren, Carrie Kelso in 1977 and Nathan Hines in 2007; and one sister, Thelma.

Betty L. Hines of Griswold, Connecticut, formerly of Caro, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, age 85 years,  She was born December 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Fannie (Crow) Book.  Betty graduated from high school in Memphis, Michigan with the class of 1945, where she met her high school sweetheart, Dale Hines.  They were married on September 13, 1947 after Dale’s discharge from the U.S. Army.  The couple cherished sixty-three years of marriage before Dale’s passing on September 27, 2010.  Betty was a resident of Caro for forty-five years, and was a longtime volunteer for Helpline, beginning in the early 1970’s for the crisis line.  For many years, she taught Sunday School at the Caro United Methodist Church, and drove bus for the Tuscola Intermediate School District.  Betty was an avid artist, seamstress,  reader, and traveler.  Betty had no formal college degree, but often humorously referred to her Ph.T degree, “Putting Hubby Through.”

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating.  The family will receive friends at the Caro United Methodist Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church or the Family Discretionary Fund.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.
