Hilda A. Moelter-Young, 91, of East Tawas, Mich., passed away Feb. 18, 2013 at Tawas Village Assisted Living.
Hilda was born on Feb. 6, 1922 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of Gustav and Albina (Hein) Fiehler.
Hilda attended Concordia College, Bronxville, NY and Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind. It was at Concordia College that Hilda met both of her husbands. She married her first husband, Raymond Moelter, in 1945, and together, the couple raised three children, Rhoda, Chrysteen and Stephen. The couple was married until Raymond’s death in 1982. Hilda married her second husband, Ralph Young, in 2005, and they enjoyed eight wonderful years of marriage together at their homes in Florida and at Tawas Village.
Hilda was a teacher all of her life, teaching German, English and science. She was also active in directing many junior- and senior-high school plays at Whittemore-Prescott High School. Hilda was also very active in her church, WPEA, MEA and MARSP, where she was highly respected by her colleagues and students.
Mrs. Moelter-Young will be missed dearly by her loving husband, Ralph Young; children, Rhoda Moelter, of Prescott, Mich., Chrysteen (William) Moelter-Gray, of Grand Haven, Mich., and Stephen (Cynthia) Moelter, of Freeland, Mich.; granddaughters, Destiny and Samantha Moelter; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; step-children, Ralph (Carol) Young and Dorcas (John) Mueller; brother-in-law, Kenneth Young; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Moelter-Young was preceded in death by her parents; Gustav and Albina Fiehler; husband, Raymond; an infant son; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Georgean Fiehler; and sister, Ruth Fiehler.
Visitation for Mrs. Moelter-Young will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Au Gres and from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22 at the church prior to service at 11 a.m. Pastor Rheanna Goodrich will officiate with interment following in Richland Township Cemetery, Prescott, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Au Gres or Hospice Angelic Care, Tawas City.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at Tawas Village and Hospice Angelic Care for their care of Hilda.
