James W. Finley, age 77, a longtime resident of Tawas City, Mich., died on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Florida Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
He was born the son of Lloyd and Margarete (nee Cummings) Finley on February 5, 1936 in Flint, Mich. Jim attended Tawas High School. He proudly served with the United States Army for three and a half years being honorably discharged on August 31, 1962.
He was the owner of several local businesses in the Tawas area and enjoyed being able to help neighbors with projects. Jim was a very active member of Hemlock Road Baptist Church and served as past head deacon as well as a past commander of AWANA.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie, whom he married on February 3, 2008 in Clayton, Mich.; his four children, Charles Finley of Grayling, Mich., Kathleen Finley of Richardson, Texas., Donald (Katherine) Finley of Tawas City, Mich. and Larry Finley of Dallas, Texas; his step-mother, Yvonne Finley; five step-children, Rhonda Ballard, Richard, Ruth, Raymond and Robert Smith; three brothers, Larry, Donald and David Finley; and five grandchildren, Rebecca, Kyle, Jordan, Jared and Carlie. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Michiyo; his parents; sister, Jerri Robinson and step son Ronald Smith.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 23 at noon at Hemlock Road Baptist Church with Rev. John Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Pioneer Cemetery.
