Survived By: Surviving are three children: Stephen McDonell, Jennifer McDonell-Guzdzial, and Hope (Patrick) Bertrand; grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren McDonell, Justin (Jacilyn) Guzdzial, and Ryan Guzdzial; his great granddaughter, Madison Mae McDonell; his brother, Jack McDonell of Light House Point, FL, a sister-in-law, Patricia McDonell; many nieces and nephews Besides his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Ann, a brother, Robert, and a sister-in-law, Helen McDonell .

   

    Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, age 81 years, died Friday, February 22, 2013, at Carriage House of Bay City.  He was born June 26, 1931 to the late Daniel and Mary (Smith) McDonell in Bay City.  Jim retired from Michigan Bell Telephone after 30 years of service and was a member of Michigan Bell Pioneers.  He enjoyed having breakfast with his retiree friends, loved to putter around the house, and doing anything he could for his family. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.  On September 22, 1956 he married the former Sally Lou Martens who died on August 16, 2012. 

     Surviving are three children: Stephen McDonell, Jennifer McDonell-Guzdzial, and Hope (Patrick) Bertrand; grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren McDonell, Justin (Jacilyn) Guzdzial, and Ryan Guzdzial; his great granddaughter, Madison Mae McDonell;  his brother, Jack McDonell of Light House Point, FL, a sister-in-law, Patricia McDonell; many nieces and nephews   Besides his wife and parents,  James was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Ann, a brother, Robert, and a sister-in-law, Helen McDonell . 

    The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Essexville.  Rev. Ricky M. Varner will preside and interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to St. Judes Children Hospital or St. John’s Church. Visitation will be Monday at the church only from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
