Verona Ann Smith, age 87, of Silverwood, MI passed away Monday, August 5, 2013 at home with her loving family.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Fostoria Baptist Church, 8933 Fostoria Rd., Fostoria, MI 48435, with Pastor Robert Wall and Pastor John Stevens officiating.

Family will receive visitors at the church Wednesday, August 7th from 1:00 PM-6:30 PM, Thursday, August 8th from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM and Friday, August 9th from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the Rich Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Fostoria Baptist Church.

Verona was born May 29, 1926 to Ute and Ulah (Van Conant) Powers in Chesterfield Township, MI. She grew up in the Rochester area and graduated from Rochester High School in 1943. On October 7, 1946 Verona married Elmer Smith in Troy, MI. Together Verona and Elmer moved to Silverwood and she resided there for 58 years. Verona was a member of the Fostoria Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a choir member, and a nursery worker. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, being a homemaker, helping on the farm, and spending time with her family.

Verona is survived by her husband, Elmer, of Silverwood; six children, Nancy (Bruce) Le Tourneau of North Branch, David (Lori) Smith of Silverwood, Diane Tompkins of Mayville, Carol (Michael) Bennett of Rocky Mount, NC., Philip (Susan) Smith of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and Mark (Paula) Smith of Silverwood; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, David Tompkins.
