            Passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010, age 90 years.

            Arlene was born in Saginaw, Michigan February 8, 1920, the daughter of the late August and Helen (Smigelski) Arndt.  She married John A. Lehr January 18, 1947.  He predeceased her February 1, 1990.  She worked for National Bottling Co. for 20 years.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.  Arlene was an active volunteer at Covenant Healthcare for over 40 years.  She received the  “Heart of Gold" award for 22,000 hours of volunteer work.  She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post No. 439 and the VFW women's auxiliary, Post No. 1566.  Arlene was known for her excellence in baking among her family members. 

            Arlene is survived by her son, Carl (Maxine) Lehr; two grandchildren, Elizabeth R. (Peter) Hales and Steven (Pam) Hales; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin M. Hales and Rebecca E. Hales; a son-in-law, Alan Hales; her brother, George Arndt; her sister, Rose (Harold) Hetzner; a sister-in-law, Madeline Capell; five nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Arlene was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy J. Hales in 2009; and three siblings, Norman Arndt, Mary Smejkal and Mildred Strunk.

            The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd.  Rev. C. William Weis will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., where they may join the family for a memorial service at 8:00 p.m. under the auspices of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Post No. 1566.  Friends may also call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to Peace Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
