SCHMUNK, Virginia L. – of Birch Run, age 85, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, 8101 Poellet St., Birch Run, Rev. Dr. Richard Hillenbrand officiating. Burial to follow in Cook Cemetery. Friends may call at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Monday from 1-4 and 6-9PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Church, Ladies VFW Auxiliary #7542 or Heartland Hospice.

Virginia was born on in Fosters, Michigan on May 25, 1924 to the late Joseph and Mable (Tackleberry) Wynes. She graduated from Birch Run High School in 1942 as a Valedictorian. Virginia married Fred Schmunk Jr. on June 26, 1943. He preceded her in death in May of 1989. She was a wonderful housewife and mother. Virginia owned and operated Blackmar Grocery from 1957-1970 and was a substitute US Mail Carrier from 1972-1988. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the VFW Auxiliary #7542. Virginia enjoyed crafts, floral arrangements and cake decorating. She made and decorated wedding cakes for all six children and many others. Virginia was a great cook and enjoyed family celebrations.

Surviving are: children, Sharon (Thomas) Kretz of Birch Run, Fred III (Linda) Schmunk of Birch Run, Kathy (Larry) Bourassa of Bay City, Debra (Duane) Chappuies of East Jordan, Richard (Samantha) Schmunk of Birch Run, Gregory Schmunk (Tammie) of Birch Run; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Satchel of Birch Run; several nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Keitha Warner and brothers, Calvin, Lewellen and Woodrow Wynes.
