Mr. Douglas Luplow
Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at his residence. Age 71 years. The son of the late Alvin and June (Eisenhauer) Luplow, Doug was born on November 22, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Jane Allman on October 17, 1964. She survives. Doug served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. Doug worked as a machine repairman for Eaton Corp. retiring in 1994. He also served on the Zilwaukee Fire Department for over 40 years most recently serving as Fire Chief from 1990 to 2007. He was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and its Ushers Club. Doug received the Life Saving Award in 1982. He was also named Zilwaukee Citizen of the year in June 2006. Doug was on the Board of Directors Amateur Hockey Association from 1983-1987 and served as the President of the Board from 1984-1986.
Surviving besides his wife Jane are two sons and one daughter, Jim and Susan Luplow, Spring Arbor; Melissa and Scott McCommon, Carrollton; and Douglas Luplow, Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, Taylor, Meredith, Lauren, Brendan, Connor and Olivia; a brother, Alvin D. and Marlene Luplow, Saginaw; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Lorrie Allman, Empire, Michigan; Lorraine and John Davenport, Carrollton; several nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Betty Luplow, Gregory Luplow and Rodney Luplow.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2013 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate. Military Services, rendered by V.F.W. Post #1566, and the United States Air Force, will take place following the Funeral Liturgy at the Zilwaukee Fire Station. Honoring Mr. Luplow’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. The Zilwaukee Fire Department will honor Doug with a walk thru at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Vigil Service, led by Fr. Richard Jozwiak, will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Josaphat Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Rod Luplow Memorial Scholarship Fund/Nouvel Catholic Central High School.
