Mahoney, Frederick J.

Saginaw Twp., Michigan.

 Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his son’s home. Age 87 years.  The son of the late Louis and Wilhemena (Schutz) Mahoney, Fred was born on October 27, 1922 in Chesaning, Michigan.  He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Fred married Betty-joe M. Shilson on May 8, 1954.  She predeceased him on April 28, 2009. He was employed by Consumers Energy for over 35 years until his retirement in 1987.  Fred was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He played senior softball in Chesaning and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

 Surviving are two daughters, three sons and their spouses, Michelle Mahoney, Saginaw; Mike and Martha Mahoney, Mattawan, Michigan; Marie Mahoney, Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico; Jim Mahoney, Littleton, Colorado; Leo and Cathy Mahoney, Saginaw; six grandchildren, Tim (Julie) Fessler, Jenna, Jamie, Mallory, Stepfanie and Austin Mahoney; a great-granddaughter, Rylee Fessler; three brothers and one sister, Bernard Mahoney, Edward Mahoney, Lawrence (Mary) Mahoney, Frances Lane; one sister-in-law, Clintena Mills, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

 Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jose Parra will officiate. Honoring Mr. Mahoney’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday  from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Heartland Hospice or the Michigan Parkinson Disease Foundation.
