Melvin
passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in
Saginaw, age
92. He was born May 13, 1917 in Indiantown, MI
to the late George and Edna (Mosher) Rosebush.
His father had an interesting story to tell; he walked across the ice
from Canada
in 1888. Melvin attended TL Handy High
School. He married his sweetheart Mae M.
Vaughn on August 9, 1946 and she predeceased him on February 15, 1979. Melvin was a veteran, serving his country
during WWII with the US Army and was stationed in the Philippines. While in the infantry he was awarded the
prestigious Purple Heart and lived through two invasions. During the war and his post war life, Melvin
most admired Lt. Stillman. He was
employed with Aladdin Homes, Great Lakes Glass and planted trees in the Upper Peninsula.
Melvin enjoyed playing gin rummy, dominos, watching the WNBA on
television, Tony Bennet music, and reading his favorite book “The Last Train to
Patagonia.” When Melvin was younger he played basketball,
racquetball and traveled to Canada,
Hawaii and New York.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Surviving are four loving children; Julie
Ann (Dick) Henline, Vaughn Paul Rosebush, Gregory Alan (Rody) Rosebush, and
Lisa (Jim Klida) Gehrke, six grandchildren; Rich (Deanna), Chad (Terri), and
Brandon Henline, Marc, Jeffrey (Ashley), and Jay P. Rosebush and seven great
grandchildren. Melvin was predeceased by
his sister, Eleanor Blackmore.
The Funeral Service will be held Monday,
August 10, 2009 at 12:00pm at the Squires Funeral Home. Members of Melvin’s family will preside and
graveside interment will follow in St.
Patrick Cemetery,
under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on
Monday from 10:00am until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered to the Aleda E. Lutz VA
Medical Center, Lutheran Home Frankenmuth or the American Cancer Society.
