Sandra ‘Sandy’ Kathryn (Haley) Mendyk – 67, of Roscommon (formerly of St. Charles) entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.  Sandy passed away at home, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. 

 

Sandy was born in Midland, MI on May 12, 1947, a daughter of the late Joseph and Phyllis (St. Louis) Haley.  She married Thomas Mendyk on September 7, 1968.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years in 2010. 

 

Sandy was employed by Dow Corning for over 30 years before her retirement in 2002.  She enjoyed reading, decorating, and treasured time with her family and friends.

 

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by their three children: Julie (Bill) Steele of St. Charles, Tammy Mendyk of Harrisonburg, VA and Jon (Deanna) Mendyk of Houghton Lake; Six Grandchildren; Dylan and Dalton Steele, Jessica and Jacob McClean, Dustin and Brandi Urbach.  Two loving sisters, Pamela (Marvin) Johnston and Susan Haley; Sisters-in-law, Karen (Carl) Adelberg, Janet Mendyk, and Judy Mendyk, and brother-in-law, Herman Keeven.  She also leaves behind her special aunts, many nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Velma (Boivin) Mendyk; brothers-in-law, Michael Franchuk, Kenneth Mendyk, and Gary Mendyk; sister-in-law, Janice (Mendyk) Keeven.

 

Visitation will be held at Christler Funeral Home in Houghton Lake on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2:00-6:00pm.  Funeral service will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Houghton Lake on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:00am.  Family will receive visitors from 10:00 until the time of service.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to Mercy Hospice Grayling at 324 Meadows Drive, Grayling, MI 49738 or to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter at 1110 Short Drive, Prudenville, MI 48651.

 

The family would like to extend special thanks to Mercy Hospice Grayling, Dr. Timothy Thornton and all others involved her in care.
