Survived By: Surviving are her children Michael of Caseville, Susan (Thomas) Rudman of Colorado, Thomas (Bethany) of Sparta, David (Marie) of Caseville, Katherine Beachy of Caseville, and James (Shari) of Caseville; grandchildren Chad (Julia), Ashley, Cody, Christina, Lauren, Jim, Daniel, Luke, Peter (Mary Kay), Greg, Emily, Naomi and Jesse; great-granddaughter Scarlet Rose; and sister Joann Roberts of Caseville.

Barbara P. Quinn, 81, of Caseville, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Home Sweet Home in Pigeon while under hospice care.

Barbara Patricia was born December 21, 1928, in Detroit to the late Joseph and Lillian (Kahoun) Gazarek.  She married James William Quinn on February 21, 1950, in Detroit.  He died tragically in a car accident on February 2, 1957 leaving Barb pregnant and with 6 young children.

Barb received a bachelor’s degree in Education from Central Michigan University and a Master’s degree in the teaching of mathematics from the University of Detroit.  She taught both math and science at Caseville High School for 33 years, in addition to being the track coach and initiating and overseeing the 7th grade camp.  She retired in 1992.  She was a member of the Michigan Retired Teachers Assoc. and the past president of the Caseville Education Assoc.  She was an active member of St. Roch Catholic Church, where she served as past president of both the Parish Council and Worship Commission.  She was also active in the community, having served on the Caseville Planning Commission, Oakwood Senior Citizen Complex Board, Huron County Nature Center and the Scheurer Hospital Board.  She enjoyed traveling, keeping stats at high school basketball games and supporting her children and  grandchildren by attending as many of their sporting events as she could.  Barb loved to be outdoors and in nature, especially taking walks in the woods.

Surviving are her children Michael of Caseville, Susan (Thomas) Rudman of Colorado, Thomas (Bethany) of Sparta, David (Marie) of Caseville, Katherine Beachy of Caseville, and James (Shari) of Caseville; grandchildren Chad (Julia), Ashley, Cody, Christina, Lauren, Jim, Daniel, Luke, Peter (Mary Kay), Greg, Emily, Naomi and Jesse; great-granddaughter Scarlet Rose; and sister Joann Roberts of Caseville.

She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law William and Hope Quinn and sister Veronica Jarkowski.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, May 15th at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be a scripture service at 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be 1-9 pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville.  She will lie in-state at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the mass. 

Memorials may be made to the St. Roch Building Fund, Heartland Hospice or the Huron County Nature Center.
