Chesaning, Michigan
Passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. Age 80 years. Joseph George Schneider was born September 16, 1929 to the late Harold and Caroline (Wendling) Schneider in Chesaning. He married Joan Miller on July 26, 1952. She survives him. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Joe worked for GM, retiring after 30 years of service. He also owned a small engine repair business and an insulation business with his brother-in-law. He enjoyed old gas tractors and restored one, as well as a Model T. Joe was a hard worker, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He enjoyed helping his brothers’ farm.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joan Schneider; children, Paul (Nenita) Schneider, Yvonne (Gary) Woods, Annette (Gary) Smith; Theresa Cook; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Harold (Thelma) Schneider, Joan (LaVerne) McDougall, Wilbur (Virginia) Schneider, Edward (Rose) Schneider, Ann (Roland) Coonrod, Elmer (Joan) Schneider, Virginia (Ken) Henige, Don (Jane) Schneider, Frances (LaVerne) Gross, Mary Birchmeier, Larry (Kaye) Schneider and Eva (Roger) Birchmeier and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce M. Schneider; son-in-law, James Cook; sister, Catherine Lienau; two brothers, Eugene and Michael Schneider.
Joe’s funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Rev. Fr. T. J. Fleming will officiate with burial in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A scripture service will take place at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the National Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
