Survived By: Leona is survived by her 7 children and their spouses, Carolyn Woods and Wayne of Vassar, MI Ellie and Harvey Sayles of Vassar, MI, Carl and Edie Cook of Dickinson, TX, Willy and Patty Cook of Yakima, WA, Lyle Cook and Lori of Yakima, WA, Ervin Cook and Cindy of Butler, FL, and Chris Cook and Sandy of Yakima, WA. She is also survived by 26, grandchildren, and 60 great grandchildren. Leona also leaves behind three sisters, Norma Hack and Arlene Heinlein of Caro, MI, Vicki (Doug) Rosenberry of Lake City, MI and a brother Russel Monroe of Fairgrove, MI.

Our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the age of 89.  She was born April 15, 1921, in East Tawas, MI, the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte (brown) Monroe.  Leona was united in marriage with Louis Henry Cook on April 2, 1940, he preceded her in death on January 2, 1962.  Leona met her special friend, Stanley (Stosh) Maciak in May of 1964, he preceded her in death in October of 1988.  Leona was a member of the Vassar Seventh-day Adventist Church.  Leona was employed at the Caro Regional Center before her retirement.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her Bible, making handmade quilts for her family, shopping , going out to eat, cooking, baking, embroidering, knitting, and sitting on her back porch having a dish of ice cream with her family.  (The grandkids especially enjoyed having cookies at Grandma's house).  Leona is survived by her 7 children and their spouses, Carolyn Woods and Wayne of Vassar, MI, Ellie and Harvey Sayles of Vassar, MI, Carl and Edie Cook of Dickinson, TX, Willy and Patty Cook of Yakima, WA, Lyle Cook and Lori of Yakima, WA, Ervin Cook and Cindy of Butler, FL, and Chris Cook and Sandy of Yakima, WA.  She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, and 60 great-grandchildren.  Leona also leaves behind three sisters, Norma Hack and Arlene Heinlein of Caro, MI and Vicki (Doug) Rosenberry of Lake City, MI, a brother Russel Monroe of Fairgrove, MI.  She was preceded in death by one son Louie, a sister Ruthann Bragg, two brothers, Delbert and Donald Monroe, son in law Jim Woods, two brothers in law Charles Bragg and Gene Heinlein.  A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday July 23, 2010 at the Vassar Seventh-day Adventist Church 5920 Frankenmuth Road, Vassar. Pastor Jeff Akenburger will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Almer Cemetery in Caro, MI.  The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Service.  Memorial contributions may be suggested to the Vassar Pathfinder club, c/o Vassar Seventh-day Adventist Church 5920 Frankenmuth Road, Vassar, MI.  Arrangements by Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home, Bay City.  1-989-892-3923.  To sign online guest book and leave words of sympathy go to www.hyattewald.com.
