Clarence and Thelma both became active in 4-H Clubs in Saginaw County and remained active until Thelma’s death.  They were honored by the Altrusa Club with the Outstanding Citizens Award in 1988.  This was the first time in the history of the Altrusa Club that the award was presented to a couple instead of an individual.  Clarence was active in several bodies of the Masonic Order, including; Life member of Pioneer Lodge #79 F. & A.M.; Saginaw Valley Chapter # 31 R.A.M.; Saginaw Valley Council # 20 R. & S.M.; St. Bernard’s Commandery #16 K.T.;N.E.
