Gordon Uhrig, age 79 of Farwell, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 with his family by his side.  Gordon was born the son of Glenn and Sarah (Rosebush) Uhrig in Flint, MI. on November 11, 1938.  On December 22, 1973, Gordon was united in marriage to Ernestine Perry in Flint, and the couple enjoyed 43 years of marriage.  After attending St. Mary’s High School of Flint, Gordon began work for the Buick Division of General Motors, proudly serving the organization for 30 years.  After retiring in 1992, Gordon and Ernestine moved from Davison to Farwell where they quickly became involved in the community, the local K of C Hall, and the St. Cecilia Catholic Church.  Gordon’s passions included going to church, feeding and watching his birds, and watching the Tigers, Lions, and Wolverines, but only if his grandchildren didn’t have sporting events first.  Gordon’s greatest love of all was that for his family.

Gordon is survived by his wife Ernestine of Farwell, his children Theresa Brinkman of Traverse city, Patrick Uhrig of Farwell, Christopher (Kristine Hill) Uhrig of Farwell, Joelle McClain of Clare, and Shawn (Gary) Bailey of Swartz Creek, and his grandchildren Gordie,  Aaron, Stefanie, Jerry, Denise, Madison, Patrick, Kayla, Jacob, GaryLee, Fiona, Gavin, and Brandon.  Other survivors include; his 17 great-grandchildren, his brother Gerald (Carol) Uhrig of Davison, his special cousins Roxann and Tim Jones, his sisters-in-law Sandra (Tiny) Davis and Sandy Perry, and his large extended and church families.  He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Sarah Uhrig, his brother Donald Uhrig, and his granddaughter Brandy.  

A funeral service for Gordon will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church of Clare with Fr. Peter Nwokoye officiating.  Friends may visit with the family at the Farwell Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 24, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., and a prayer service will take place at 7:30 P.M.  Memorial contributions in honor of Gordon may be directed towards the family to put toward a scholarship in Gordon’s name.  Those unable to attend may leave an online condolence at www.stephenson-wyman.com
