Willard E. "Alex" Alexander, 87, of Midland, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, at his home.  He was born June 1, 1930, in Pontiac, the son of Thomas Ernest and Myrtle Irene (Carpenter) Alexander.

 

He attended Central Michigan University for three years before pursuing a career at The Dow Chemical Company.  On May 14, 1955, he married Patricia Anthony in Mt. Pleasant. Alex worked in chemical research for many years before retiring in 1995.  He enjoyed photography, rock hounding, gardening and special family camping trips in Ossineke.

 

Alex is survived by his children Barbara Anthony-Alexander and her partner James Decker, Luci (Dale) Liphard, Kelly (Rick) Reger, Morgan (Kristen) Alexander; grandchildren Dawn Pease, Dale Liphard, Jr., Ian Gillings, Dannielle Liphard, Megan Gillings, Laura Gillings, Jennifer Gillings; great grandchildren Taylor, Chance, Colter, Gabriella; sisters Patricia Huggler, Joy Christian and his brother Arthur (Marjorie) Alexander.  He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, grandson Tony Lee "Bud" Watkins, and brothers Roger, Duane, Donald, and Dwight "Tommy".

 

Funeral services will take place at 1 pm, Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street.  Paul Tolly and Emily Bolander will officiate with burial in Homer Cemetery.  As Alex had served in the United States Marine Corps, military honors will be presented under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans.  Alex's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 am until time of services.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Wildlife Recovery Association, 531 S.
