Survived By: her five sons and their spouses, Timothy and Alice Bierlein, Gerald and Beverly Bierlein, Brian and Lois Bierlein, Anthony and Donna Bierlein, all of Reese and Douglas Bierlein of Wapakoneta, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Ben Bernabei, Adam and Christie Bierlein, Jared and Chelsea Bierlein, Janelle and Ben Kolhagen, Casey and Cori Bierlein, Cole and Corinne Bierlein, Carmen and Chris Matthews, Travis and Emily Bierlein, Dana and Justin Baley, Karli Bierlein, Shayna Bierlein and Carson Bierlein and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Loretta Bierlein of Saginaw; sisters-in-law; Hilda Buchinger, and Lorna Koeppendoerfer, Arlene Bierlein, Irene Bickel and Lillian Bickel, her brother-in-law, Herb Schmidt and many nieces and nephews.
Affiliations: She was member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville, its Mary Martha Guild, and sang in the church choir for fifty-five years. She volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Store in Saginaw for many years.

Gertrude M. Bierlein, 93 years, of Reese, died Sunday morning, April 29, 2018 at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth. She was born August 22, 1924 in Saginaw, daughter of the late William and Lydia (Bender) Bickel. On July 24, 1949 she was married to Ruben W. Bierlein in Frankentrost. He predeceased her September 21, 2016 after sixty-seven-five years of marriage. Mrs. Bierlein was a homemaker all of her life and helped her husband on the family farm. She was member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville, its Mary Martha Guild, and sang in the church choir for fifty-five years. She volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Store in Saginaw for many years. Gert enjoyed being with her family and also enjoyed many activities including, playing cards, polka and square dancing, mushroom hunting, fishing with her husband, bowling and gardening.

Surviving are her five sons and their spouses, Timothy and Alice Bierlein, Gerald and Beverly Bierlein, Brian and Lois Bierlein, Anthony and Donna Bierlein, all of Reese and Douglas Bierlein of Wapakoneta, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Ben Bernabei, Adam and Christie Bierlein, Jared and Chelsea Bierlein, Janelle and Ben Kolhagen, Casey and Cori Bierlein, Cole and Corinne Bierlein, Carmen and Chris Matthews, Travis and Emily Bierlein, Dana and Justin Baley, Karli Bierlein, Shayna Bierlein and Carson Bierlein and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Loretta Bierlein of Saginaw; sisters-in-law; Hilda Buchinger, and Lorna Koeppendoerfer, Arlene Bierlein, Irene Bickel and Lillian Bickel, her brother-in-law, Herb Schmidt and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers; Fred, Waldemar, and Eric Bickel, two sisters, Gretchen Schiefer, Alice Scharrer, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 from St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. Reverend Rob Gadeken and Reverend Wesley Gillaspie will both officiate with Committal Services to follow in the St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery. Gert’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
