Zechmeister of Saginaw, Matthew S. & Anna Zechmeister of Houston, Texas, and Michelle & Jason Karas of Caro; one grandson, Tyler Zechmeister; five granddaughters, Brooke and Chelsea Gilbert, Amelia, Adelaide and Madeline Zechmeister; one brother and spouse, Steve & Linda Zechmeister of Akron; and scores of nieces and nephews.

Matthew Leslie Zechmeister of Saginaw, age 76, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw. Matthew was born August 12, 1941 in Moson, Hungary, but immigrated to the United States in 1950. He attended Caro High School and honorably served his country with distinction for twelve years in the U.S. Army completing two tours in Vietnam and earning the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). He was united in marriage for forty-six years with the love of his life, the former Margie Maupin. Margie preceded him in death on July 29, 2015. Never wanting to be tied down, his career spanned many fields from Manpower, to owning Zechmeister Builders and Meredith Reality, then finally auto and luxury boat sales. Matthew was a former member of the Fairgrove VFW Post, the DAV, and the Saginaw American Legion Post. He enjoyed traveling, especially with his motorhome.

He is survived by two daughters, one son, and their spouses, Meredith L. Zechmeister of Saginaw, Matthew S. & Anna Zechmeister of Houston, Texas, and Michelle & Jason Karas of Caro; one grandson, Tyler Zechmeister; five granddaughters, Brooke and Chelsea Gilbert, Amelia, Adelaide and Madeline Zechmeister; one brother and spouse, Steve & Linda Zechmeister of Akron; and scores of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Matthew’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Jerzy Dobosz officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Aleda E.
