Jerome "Jerry" Mewhiney

Passed away after a lengthy illness on September 1, 2010 at Brittany Manor in Midland at the age of 81. Jerry was born in Jackson, MI on May 9, 1929 to Teresa (Cramer) Mewhiney and Paul Mewhiney of St. Louis, MI. He worked for several years at the Caro State Hospital before working as a supervisor at Eaton/Gredes in Vassar for 30 years. After retiring on May 9, 1991, he moved from Fairgrove to live by Wixom Lake in Beaverton. In 1998 he moved and spent his remaining years living in Freeland. Jerry always loved being with his family. During the years before retirement, he also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and golfing. He had a great appreciation for nature and the beauty in the world around him. He loved pictures of a sunset. His hidden talent was the great artistic ability he had. Jerry felt great joy from his frequent car rides with his wife around the countryside. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Rayl) Mewhiney who he shared his life with for over 62 years, a son; Mike Mewhiney and the late Kathy Mewhiney of Gladwin, a son; Jim Mewhiney and wife Joyce of Caro, a daughter; Paula Edwards and friend David of Bealeton, VA., 8 grandchildren; Amy Frehling and Holly Mewhiney of Gladwin, Andrea Stec and husband Deron of South Lyon, Aaron Spencer and wife Cristen of Westmont, IL., Nicole Mewhiney and friend Frank of Atlanta, GA., Erika Trisch and husband Kris of Waldorf, MD., and Alisha and Kara Edwards of VA., 9 great-grandchildren; Dakota, John Michael, Lily, Dariyan, Olivia, Brendon, Grace, Faith, and Sydney. Jerry's family will recieve friends at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. (Washington Ave. & 2nd Sts.) Freeland on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy envelopes for St. Jude's Children's Hospital will be available at the funeral home.
