Kawkawlin, Michigan

 Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center.  Age 54 years.  The daughter of the late Donald and Joyce (Miller) Thick, Karen was born on September 27, 1955 in Saginaw, Michigan.  She married Michael E. Grunwell on May 17, 1975.  He survives her.  Karen was employed by Saginaw Public Schools as a purchasing and warehouse manager for 37 years until her retirement in 2010.  She enjoyed going to the casino, reading, traveling and vacationing at their cottage in AuGres. She was president of Saginaw Public Schools Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Karen sold Pampered Chef for about five years in the area.

 Surviving besides her husband Michael are one son and one daughter, Michael (Jessica) Grunwell, Bay City; Alison (John) Landosky, Midland; one grandson, Colin Grunwell; one brother, Joseph (Linda) Thick, Saginaw; two sisters, Gail (Doug) Parsons- Doughty, Suttons Bay; Nancy Thick, Saginaw; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Hartwig, Michelle Thick; many nieces and nephews.  Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Thick.

 Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2510 Fraser Rd., Kawkawlin.  Rev. Fr. Chet Pilarski will officiate.  Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society.
