Devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother passed away early Saturday morning March 16, 2019 at Meridian Acres Assisted Living in Sanford at the age of 88 years. Dorothy was born July 11, 1930 to the late Harry  and Theresa (Willing) Willis in Saginaw, MI and she has resided in this area all of her life. Dorothy attended Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. Dorothy was a collector of all things. She enjoyed politics, antiquing, and giving back to her community. She loved mushroom hunting, gardening, nature watching, and soaking in the sunshine. She was an exquisite hostess for dinner parties, reunions, and other festive gatherings. She served on many boards in Saginaw County over the years while spreading her generosity and kindness to others. On June 24, 1950 Dorothy married James R. Erskine, he predeceased her on October 2, 1982. Dorothy is survived by her three sons; Patrick (Carol Lee) Erskine, Michael (Leslie) Erskine, John Erskine, four grandchildren; Ryan (Reba) Erskine, Michelle Erskine, Melissa (Chris) Thomas, Jacob Erskine and three great grandchildren; Eden, Lilly and William. A brother Gerald Willis also survives Dorothy. Six sisters and two brothers have predeceased Dorothy.

 

Funeral and committal services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 21, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland. Rev. Fr. Bert Gohm will officiate. Burial will follow in Westside Cemetery in Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home 310 E. Washington St., Freeland on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Saginaw Children’s Zoo, the Castle Museum, Saginaw or the donor’s favorite charity.
